Edmodo

Description of the tool:

Edmodo is a way for teachers to have students learn outside the classroom. You can post assignments, notes, quizzes, polls, and snapshots. You can also assign assignments for the students to complete by picking a due date. Edmodo allows you to create groups or classes for the students to be in. Each student has a class code that they use to sign up. The planner allows you to see what assignments are due when. Edmodo also has an app store where you can purchase apps to have on your Edmodo. Edmodo allows you to see how many students have turned in their assignment. There is also a notification symbol that lets you know if you have any notifications. You can see the student progress, that is, how many assignments each registered student has completed. The students can earn badges for their completed assignments and the you can earn badges as the students complete their work. Edmodo has a gradebook that inputs grades so you can put the grades in your school specified gradebook.

Pedagogical uses:

Teachers can use Edmodo to flip their classroom or to teach a class outside of school. Edmodo is run a lot like other LMSs so teachers can assign students assignments and have them complete them outside of school. Teachers could also have the students complete them in school if students do not have internet or computer access in their home. Edmodo is a great way to incorporate technology into the classroom without a lot of work for the teacher. You can have an assignment for the students to complete before they come to school and grade it on Edmodo. Students can also take quizzes on Edmodo while incorporating technology into the classroom. Edmodo is a great way to make sure that students are completing their homework because it will tell you if the students handed in their assignment.
